"Deadly Force"
AIRDATE: 05.21.86

DIRECTOR: James Darren

WHAT SAID:

Hooker's pursuit of a murderous jewelry-store robber is impeded by a TV-news reporter.

SYNOPSIS:

When Lt. O'Brien's niece Jennifer is killed during a jewel robbery, Corrigan takes it personally because he drove Jennifer off to the store. The main lead is a space-age gun used in the robbery. In checking records, the name Jack Turlow appears, and Hooker goes to question him. In the meantime, Lisa Temple, a reporter, becomes involved in the case, centering her stories around the futuristic gun and how similar it is to one used by a comic strip hero, "Johnny Starbuckle." Harlan Walker, Jennifer's killer, in following the news reports, begins to believe he is Johnny Starbuckle. Hooker uses the media to set a trap, but unfortunately Lisa Temple bungles it and Walker and his accomplice, Roy Mead, get away. Walker phones Lisa, believing he is Johnny Starbuckle, and arranges to meet her at the Excelsior Hotel. Lisa agrees, but Hooker follows her to the hotel without her knowledge. When Hooker arrives, Mead escapes and Hooker chases Walker into a darkened ballroom where he is able to confuse him and finally take him into custody.
