WHAT SAID:

Stacy's future, which includes prospects of marriage, looks bright until she's implicated in the disappearance of two kilos of heroin from a major bust.

SYNOPSIS:

After a major drug bust involving dealer Al Coleman, Stacy is awarded the honor of booking the heroin into the evidence room at the precinct. A little while later, Stacy's ex-fiance, Harrison "Mac" Macenzie runs into her and persuades her to go out with him. Unbeknownst to her, he's involved with Coleman and Lavery, who are at the helm of the cocaine and heroin importing. Mac makes a wax impression of Stacy's squad car key and on the day she and Corrigan are moving the heroin to the lab for testing, Deems, an associate of Coleman's gets into the car and switches the heroin for milk sugar. When the switch is discovered, Stacy is stripped of her badge and gun and Coleman is released. When Mac goes to pick the heroin up from Deems, he ends up shooting Deems when an argument breaks out. Back at the precinct, Stacy talks about resigning to marry Mac. Stacy drops by Mac's office to talk to him only to be taken hostage by Coleman and Leavery who intend to use her to get Mac to hand over the heroin. Luckily Hooker learns that Mac has gone to an empty warehouse for a meeting and he and Romano arrive in time to make the necessary arrests.

REVIEW:

In a junk yard, Hooker, Romano, Corrigan, Sheridan, and Lt. Tom Reed (along with several unnamed LCPD officers) appear as part of a S.W.A.T. team hot on the trail of an apparent drug dealer, George Coleman. As Hooker leads the observation team by whispering orders over a walkie-talkie, Coleman prepares for a sMac delivery along with Paul Butler, an LCPD cop on Coleman's payroll. When Hooker spots the deal going down, he calls in the rest of the team. The S.W.A.T. team pile into a heavily-armored S.W.A.T. vehicle, and head towards Coleman. One of Coleman's men spots the large truck with the word "S.W.A.T." painted on the front hood, and calls to Coleman that cops are headed their way. Coleman becomes furious with Butler, thinking the renegade cop sold the drug dealer out. Coleman shoots Butler dead. Inevitably, the S.W.A.T. team overpowers the drug dealers and nabs Coleman. Hooker notices Butler is dead, and decides to tell Butler's widow the bad news. Stacy finds two packages of heroin in one of the drug dealer's trucks. "Book it, Stace," Hooker tells her. "You could use the gold star in your file." Stacy turns in the drugs (six million dollars' worth of China White, according to Hooker).

Hooker finds Ellen Butler at home, and breaks the bad news to her about Paul's death. While embracing her tenderly, he notices Ellen's brand new luxury sedan, and becomes suspicious. How could Paul afford this on a street cop's salary?

Stacy meets up with her ex-fiancee Harrison "Mac" Macenzie, a pipe-smoking lawyer almost twice her age. She broke off the engagement three months ago, when Mac forced her to choose between him and her career as a cop. They agree to meet for dinner later at Armando's.

Meanwhile, Hooker and Romano get on the trail of Joe Deems, a snitch that Hooker believes is involved with George Coleman. 4adam30 make their way to Club Starlight, where they find Deems (and a scantily-clad dancing girl). Deems gets away...for the moment.

At Armando's, Stacy and Mac have a quiet dinner. Mac orders an espresso as he lights his pipe. He and Stacy catch up (and let the audience know about their past history together). Stacy excuses herself from the table, and Mac opens her purse, making a wax impression of her squad car key.

The next day, Mac is visited at his office by Warren Avery, a high-powered, high-paid lawyer who was behind the drug deal with Coleman. He has enlisted Mac to get Stacy's key so that his men can steal the captured heroin back when Stacy transports it to the lab for testing. Avery has blackmail material against Mac, thereby allowing him to push Mac around as much as he wants.

Avery's men (two white guys with black turtlenecks pulled over their mouths) create a diversion which forces Stacy and Corrigan into a street chase, leaving their squad car unattended. Joe Deems appears, and switches out the bags of heroin for two bags of sugar. Corrigan is injured in the chase when he falls into a garbage can. 4Adam30 arrive on the scene after the chase ends, and Romano takes Corrigan to the hospital. Hooker accompanies Stacy to the lab, where the heroin is tested in front of everyone (including Avery, who is representing Coleman). The lab technician declares the heroin to be sugar. Lt. Reed interrogates Stacy about it, and when she can give no clear explanation, he demands her badge and gun, suspending her pending an inquest.

Hooker goes to Paul Butler's funeral and interrogates Ellen Butler about her new car -- how could she and Paul possibly afford it? Ellen claims Paul had a tip on some good stocks.

Mac and Stacy take a walk on the beach, and he asks her to quit her job, then proposes to her for the second time. She accepts. At the Academy, Hooker & Romano finish the paperwork for Paul Butler's pension, when Hooker finds a copy of Butler's will -- which was overseen by Warren Avery. Suspicious at how Butler could have afforded Avery's rates, Hooker decides to check into it later. He gets a tip from Corrigan as to Joe Deems' whereabouts, and heads there with him and Corrigan.

Deems meets up with Mac, who has been told by Avery to give Deems $10,000 for the two bags of heroin. When Deems refuses to hand over one of the bags, Mac shoots him and steals his car. Hooker and Romano chase him, but lose him when a semi gets in the way. Back at the Academy, Stacy quits the force, but Hooker, Romano & Corrigan try to talk her out of it. Hooker later pulls over Avery's limo to ask him about Paul Butler's will. He finds one of Mac's pipe matches in the ashtray of Avery's car. Putting two and two together, he realizes Stacy shouldn't marry Mac as he's caught up in the drug deal. He tells Stacy this when he sees her on the beach. She doesn't believe him, but visits Mac to confront him. Mac has been talking to Avery and his cronies, who hide in Mac's closet while he talks to Stacy. They bust out and demand Mac take them to the missing heroin, claiming Stacy as a hostage. They head off to the Carmelli Warehouse. Hooker, Romano & Corrigan bring Sam the drug dog to Mac's office, and get a tip from his secretary that they went to the warehouse.

At the warehouse, Avery insists Mac kill Stacy so that she won't reveal Avery's connection to the drug ring. Mac points a gun at her and says "I'm sorry". Hooker and the boys arrive just in time. Hooker drives his squad through the side of the warehouse, breaking up the melee. Mac is shot. Hooker has a footrace with Avery, chasing him onto the roof and back down into the warehouse. He overpowers him and brings him to justice.

Stacy is reinstated into the force, and is late for her shift because her uniform was tied up at the cleaners.
