"Sweet Sixteen and Dead"
AIRDATE: 02.12.83

WHAT SAID:

Hooker's concern for a teen-age prostitute leads him to a pimp who's bribing city officials.

SYNOPSIS:

Kelly Hobbs, a sixteen-year old runaway, is trying to make it as a hooker in L.A. She is befriended by Star Taylor, an ex-hooker who works for a half-way house. While they are out on the boulevard talking, they accidentally witness a pay-off to a city councilman by pimp Eddie pearl. Realizing she is in danger, Kelly manages a quick call to her brother right before Pearl and Decker, his henchmen, catch her. Star manages to escape. Hooker and Romano witness the on-goings and give pursuit. During the chase, Kelly falls out of the car and is struck by another car. While Kelly is taken to the hospital, Hooker and Romano request information on the fleeing car and also manage to locate Kelly's place of residence. While they are there, her brother Gordie arrives. Gordie explains about the phone call and Star, who Hooker and Romano are able to track to Irene's shelter. From there they receive information that Star is trying to leave town by bus. When they arrive at the bus depot, they spot Decker and Pearl waiting for Star. At that moment, Gordie's truck careens around the corner and smaskes into Pearl's car. After Hooker and Romano break up the fight, Gordie tells them her sister has died. Hooker realizes the only way to bring Pearl to justice is to find Star. He finally locates her at a church where she agrees to testify. They arrest Pearl as he is trying to burn his ledger book.
